N & V wedding – Clos LaChance winery – Delbarr Moradi Photography

Such a happy day! I received these beautiful photos from the talented Delbarr Moradi and I must say these photos completely swept my feet away. This gorgeous bride of mine looking so stunning yet natural. After our trial, I made notes of what could’ve been done better and on the wedding day, I did my best to ensure my bride has the look she wished for: fresh and romantic, but with a subtle “wow” effect.

Makeover: a glamorous finish for Melissa

Melissa showed up with a huge smile, wearing sporty sweatpants and hoodies, completely bare face – no makeup, but I can tell right away she has such attractive bone structure! There’s something about that cheekbones and the smile. This makeover was for her post-wedding photoshoot. She was married 3 years ago in New Jersey. But, looking back, she felt like that day was very rushing and she didn’t have all the photos she would love to have for the two of them, so before having kids, Melissa wanted to redo her wedding photoshoot – which was really clever I think.

We chatted and she showed me her wedding photos & I could see she wore strong makeup then as well. She assured me that I could go smoky and glamorous for her. Again, Melissa was one of my many clients who would leave the makeup style up to me. She said, “I trust that you can just look at my features and do what you think is best!”

I started with airbrush and was careful on making the skin looking as smooth & flawless as possible. Melissa has really nice skin naturally. I just needed to give her good contouring to enhance her bone structure. For brows, I told her I would make her brows a bit more even without severely changing them. I could make them completely even, but that would mean I will have to shave some part of one side of the brows completely and making up the missing part with some drawing in using makeup. And then she would suffer with very weird brows after she takes off my makeup for the session. So, I would rather not do that! I like to enhance & glam up my clients to the level that they’re comfortable with, while still keeping it real.

The main attraction of the look was the smoky eyes! I think Melissa rocked this smoky eyes look. It gave her eyes great depth and paired up well with her attractive bone structure (*wink*).

Melissa was super happy with the look and sent me a thank-you email soon after. Love this girl! I can’t wait to see her photos with the talented duo Wayne & Angela

Kathie & David wedding: modern fairy tale

Kathie’s wedding photos blew me away! Painting-like imagery, beautiful soft tones with a perfect amount of crisp and definition, and filled with happiness and romance  … I’m so happy for her, beyond words!

Her wedding was last April but she found me on Style Me Pretty since July 2012, and booked me while she was still working in Taiwan at the time. Yes, she was such a planner and a sweetheart too! When a bride give me such trust and full commitment to do what it takes on her part (such as getting enough rest, taking good care of her skin and hair, providing good working space for us on the day of), I couldn’t do any less of a perfect job possible for her. Her look was a semi-natural look with an emphasis on a flawless dewy skin finish (perfect for springtime) while keeping the rest of the makeup fresh, soft & minimal. I wouldn’t say this look will work best for everyone, but it was best for Kathie.  And having such an amazing photographer, Tec Petaja, helped making her wedding a modern fairy tale. So beautiful!!!

Makeover: sweet and glamorous look for Carolyn

Carolyn needed my help with hair & makeup for her SF Asian Art Museum Opening Night Gala last month as she was one of the event organizers and a model herself for the night. We exchanged some ideas prior  (mostly just about the dress because she said she would leave the makeup style to me) & on the day of, she came to my studio with her dress to show me the color & style of the dress, and we quickly got to work.

So I took some “before” shots to understand how she photographed and I realized that as cute as she was in person, in pictures it’s a different story. She’s still cute, don’t get me wrong, but she photographed a little more matured and her double-lid eyes just disappeared and looked mono-lid in pictures. Many of us Asians have this problem. And besides that, sometimes in photos, the cuteness that I see in some clients don’t get transferred well through the lens. So besides making sure my client looks great with makeup in person, I also try my best to bring their cuteness, uniqueness or youthful energy into the photos. It’s the hardest part!  Here’s our before/after shot:

Considering that she has full brows, I told her quickly of what I would do: light & simple with eye shadow colors, but more glam on the lashes and a nice pop of colors for blush & lipstick, all for photography because I know she’ll be photographed mostly whole body for the night. If I use light colors, it may not show up in pictures. Most importantly, I highlight the area under her eyes for a youthful glow … and make sure her lipstick is water-proofed. She told me later that her lipstick lasted all night, all she did was just some clear lipgloss over to keep it fresh and that was it.

We had a lot of fun putting this look together for her. She was so easy going and so much fun to work with. Thanks Carolyn!

Kristen & Carlos Wedding _ Mountain Winery, Saratoga

I was very happy when receiving Kristen’s email telling me that her wedding photos are now done & told me she felt beautiful that day (!)… It’s one of the emails that I’ve been waiting for months. I was just dying to see if the camera would do her beauty justice. She looked amazing that morning… and she was a dream to work with. I love Kristen! I’ve blogged about our whole booking and communicating via email process, as well as what happened on the day-of here …

So after I got her email, I jumped to her photographer’s blog right away … And there she is, looking so beautiful & elegant, and above all, happy & glowing in love. Kristen and Carlos make such a great couple!
